Seriously one of the best mods I’ve ever done. Wheel is kinda heavy when stopped but far from unmanageable, and I’m super weak as far as upper body goes. There is a bit of extra road feel and a definite power bump below 4500rpm. 2nd gear is faaaar more usable now. Butt dyno results are +900hp but I’m still waiting on results from the scientists at Buttdyno.
So yeah do it. Take off the belt and see how you like it. It takes five seconds.

YES. The P/S belt on my 99 started to shred one day. The bits that were falling off whipped around in the engine bay. So I did what any logical person would do, I pulled over took out my knife, and cut that sucker off.

you can buy a loop of tube and connect between the input and output on the steering rack and remove the whole PS system all together.

also, there are non-PS versions of the rack that are even more responsive as thye are designed to be wielded unassisted

I’ve been tempted because the seals on my rack and pinion are shot and I lose PS fluid at a disturbing rate.
But the car is going away this week, so I’ll leave it as is.

Can you say... hydraulic to electric power steering conversion? Looks like someone already did... electric power steering conversion
I'll consider it for my son's car when I think he can handle the extra 8-10 hp.
